U.S. Space Forces Japan marked its first year of activation on Dec. 4 at Yokota Air Base in Japan, celebrating a milestone since its establishment as a space component in the Indo‑Pacific region. The event brought together Guardians and allies to recognize the progress made over the past year.
Activated as the second component under U.S. Space Forces Indo‑Pacific, following U.S. Space Forces Korea, the unit supports space expertise for U.S. forces and Japanese partners. During its first year, it expanded operational capabilities, built directorates and strengthened relationships with U.S. Forces Japan and other partners.
Leaders highlighted the growing partnership with the Japan Air Self‑Defense Force’s Space Operations Group, noting shared goals and collaborative efforts. The component looks to continue its mission to integrate space operations and support joint regional objectives.
